Other areas that I have looked at in relation to the trailers are the actual representation and presence of women in the games.
The first trailer, Call of Duty MW3 has no women that I can obviously see throughout the whole trailer, this along with an analysis of the trailer clearly backs up just how male oriented this game is. When I review the Just Dance 3 trailer on the other hand this trailer is full of both sexes, even possible more weighted towards female.
Although Just Dance 3 has women in the trailer, it was still only one of two games that I would say are female orientated out of the 2011 top ten.
After looking at this it got me thinking about a journal I had read while carrying out secondary research into games and gender and It got me to thinking about games that don't particularly include women and this quote ‘the gender issues involved in design are too complex to be solved by just “adding women and stir” ‘ It is probably true that just including women in the games still wouldn't make games such as Call of Duty appealing to them.

Trailers research.

As I had the task of researching trailers for video games to decide if they were marketed more towards a specific gender.
I decided to not just begin with trailers but to choose the trailers for a reason, I researched the top selling games of 2011 http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/gamesblog/2012/jan/11/best-selling-games-of-2011?newsfeed=true and went from there finding and downloading trailers from YouTube to analyze. I looked at the trailers for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Just Dance 3 and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Focusing on a specific area

As a group we had been trying to work out what subject area we should focus on, we had really struggled and been considering all sorts of options including going down the route of creating a primary study ourselves by contacting different groups of people and getting questionnaire responses. We had all decided though after discussion that we should all focus on one specific area for our research project. We chose the area of marketing for our specific subject area surrounding gaming and delegated different areas of marketing to research; I focused on visual marketing like games trailers, Tony was focusing on the games specific shops and Jonathan on print media.
